DOVETAIL ELECTRIC AVIATION UNVEILS “DOVEPOWER”, ITS ELECTRIC PROPULSION SYSTEM, AT AVALON 2025
DovePower is a fully integrated Electric Propulsion System or EPS designed to replace conventional turboprop engines on regional aircraft, offering a zero-emission alternative with significantly lower operational costs. The system will provide electric propulsion to CS-23 aircraft, whether 100% battery-powered or via other means, like hydrogen fuel cells, a turbogenerator or a combination of any of
them with batteries.
At Avalon 2025, attendees got an exclusive first look at the DovePower prototype, which included:
- Electric Motor – High-performance, lightweight and low noise, designed for regional aircraft under the CS-23 regulations.
- Inverter – Cutting-edge power electronics ensuring optimal control of the motor
- Pitch Control Unit (PCU) – Propeller blade pitch control unit, designed by our partner Hartzell, and integrated in our EPS
In addition to DovePower, Dovetail also showcased its DovePack proprietary battery technology, which powers its fully electric and hybrid-electric aircraft solutions. The batteries and core system components were on display, demonstrating the modular approach that allows for both battery-only and hydrogen-electric configurations.
A step closer to commercial electric aviation
Dovetail’s first commercial aircraft retrofit, a battery-electric Cessna Caravan 208, is set to be ready for flight by late 2025, paving the way for regional operators to transition into zero-emissions. DovePower and DovePack will play a central role in certifying the world’s first full electric retrofit propulsion system for existing commercial aircraft under EASA rules , with entry into service targeted for 2027.
