DOVETAIL ELECTRIC AVIATION SECURES STRATEGIC FINANCIAL BACKING FROM CAIXABANK TO ADVANCE ZERO-EMISSION AIRCRAFT PROGRAM IN SPAIN

November 5, 2025
Dovetail Electric Aviation, a global pioneer in the development of battery-electric and hydrogen-electric propulsion systems for aircraft retrofitting, has secured financing from CaixaBank — Spain’s leading financial institution and a benchmark in sustainable banking— to support the company’s ground-breaking clean aviation initiatives in Spain.

This collaboration reinforces CaixaBank’s commitment to innovation and sustainability by facilitating the pre-financing of €1.7 million in public funding granted to Dovetail under the prestigious Science and Innovation Missions Program managed by CDTI. The €5.5 million project, led by Aciturri in collaboration with ITP Aero and Dovetail, will culminate in the integration of a proprietary full electric powertrain into a CS23 aircraft powered by batteries and a hydrogen range extender —marking a major step toward commercialising zero-emission regional aviation.

This is the second operation in which CaixaBank has partnered with Dovetail. In 2024, the bank also pre-financed a €800,000 grant awarded under ICEX’s Innova Invest program. Both financial agreements have been instrumental in accelerating Dovetail’s R&D activities in Spain, where the company is actively investing in the development of clean propulsion systems, advanced battery technology, and aircraft conversion capabilities.

Dovetail’s European operations are currently headquartered in the south of Spain, where the company has initially set up its engineering and industrial footprint, in close partnership with leading institutions such as the Universities of Huelva and Seville, and R&D centres such as Fundación Centro de Tecnologías Aeronáuticas (CTA) and Cidetec. Dovetail is also seeking for different options in the South of Europe to perform the first integrated flight of its battery-electric powertrain in early 2026.

Isidoro Ruiz, Director of Operations at Dovetail, noted:
“CaixaBank’s continued support is not only a testament to their confidence in our vision, but also a powerful endorsement of Spain’s capacity to lead the decarbonisation of regional aviation. We are proud to count on them as we move forward toward the first zero-emission test flights from Spain.”
